What is the proper thing to do when giving oneself a shot for Type 1 diabetes when at a restaurant?

My son needs to test and give himself a insulin shot before each meal and he is not wanting to go in rest rooms as most of them are pretty gross. The shot also needs to be given very close to when he starts eating so being newly diagnosed at 31 yrs old he is not sure what to do
