How would you describe Giles Corey in the play the Crucible in Act 1?

What is his personality? How would you describe his main motivation and his main conflict for that motivation? And also his effect on plot? He rarely said anything in Act 1 so I am not very sure about his motivation? Also he seems to be joining Procter one second and change his mind later, and he seems to be pro with witchcraft with the case of her wife but then I am not really sure. Please help :)
